Inside a Bright and Beautiful Riverside Home by Amalia Boier

For London interior designer Amalia Boier, every project begins with understanding how a space should feel. This recently completed two-bedroom riverside apartment in Battersea offered the perfect opportunity to transform a dark, enclosed property into a bright and welcoming home away from home. “The natural light was quite limited” explains Amalia. “We really wanted to brighten and add a more airy feel to the whole apartment, especially in the main living area.” The result is a carefully considered interior where every design decision supports comfort, calm and everyday living.

Designing Around the Architecture


Working with the apartment’s unusual layout, Amalia turned its architectural challenges into defining design features. An off-centre structural pillar, curved kitchen and awkward angles became opportunities to introduce softer forms through bespoke furniture and carefully planned zoning. “We really had to work with the architecture to make sure that the proportions of the furniture and the way everything was placed allowed for more softness and a more welcoming, inviting feel” she says. Dedicated spaces for relaxing, working and entertaining now flow naturally together without compromising openness.

A Palette Inspired by Nature


The apartment’s riverside setting shaped much of the design language, with soft colours, layered textures and natural materials creating a strong connection to the landscape beyond the windows. “The vision for this space was to bring the outdoors in” says Amalia. “We are sitting across the river with lots of trees, and we wanted to bring freshness and make it brighter.” Silk wallcoverings, marble, timber, linen and textured wallpapers work together to reflect changing daylight while creating warmth throughout the home.

Bespoke Design in Every Detail


Custom craftsmanship defines the project, with nearly every piece of furniture designed specifically for the apartment. From the curved bouclé sofa to handcrafted joinery, bespoke artwork and layered soft furnishings, each element was designed to complement the client’s vision with the apartment’s architectural features. “All the furniture that we do in our projects is bespoke” Amalia explains. “We worked closely with the client to get the right feel. She wanted something that’s not too soft, not too rigid either, just comfortable, lush and inviting.”

Transforming Challenging Spaces


Even the apartment’s most challenging spaces became functional features through thoughtful planning. An awkward recess was transformed into a generous study nook with bespoke cabinetry and a layout carefully tailored to the space, while the structural pillar became an elegant focal point wrapped in embroidered vegan leather inspired by ocean waves. “We wanted to keep it subtle, but it adds texture and creates a really nice area as you walk in.” Amalia says.

Spaces Designed for Everyday Living


Throughout the apartment, beauty is matched by practicality. Durable stain-resistant fabrics, generous storage, movable furniture and multifunctional layouts ensure the home works as well as it looks. The guest bedroom can also function as a study or dining room through the addition of a discreet pocket door, while the winter garden provides flexible seating areas for dining, reading or simply enjoying the riverside outlook. Every design choice reflects how the client will actually use the space day to day.

Boutique Hotel Comfort at Home


The bedrooms and bathrooms continue the same attention to detail, combining luxurious materials with highly personalised finishing touches. Bespoke embroidered linens, layered fabrics, handcrafted furniture and spa-inspired bathrooms create a vibe associated with luxury hospitality. “The idea was to create that sort of zen spa sanctuary where you can get ready and just enjoy it on a daily basis” says Amalia. Even fragrances, accessories and monogrammed towels were selected to complete the experience.

Luxury Designed to Be Lived In


While the apartment showcases exceptional craftsmanship and refined interiors, its greatest success lies in how naturally it feels to live in. Every room balances elegance with comfort, allowing the spectacular river views to remain at the heart of the experience. As Amalia puts it, “It’s just incredible to sit on the sofa, have a cup of coffee or tea, glimpse across the river for the views, and relax.” It is a project that demonstrates how thoughtful interior design can completely transform not only a home, but the way it is experienced every day.
